With your ongoing support, it can continue to provide these programmes and services to the local community. Without continued support they may be delayed or postponed.

Volunteer

You can volunteer at the Habitat Hub or help one of the tenants, volunteer as an individual, a team, e.g. paid volunteering through your work (employer may pay you one day a year to select a charity of your choice to volunteer. Ask your employer about it)!

Volunteering is incredibly satisfying. Volunteer to make a difference, and the bonus is you’ll feel great too. Volunteering can help you to give (your time, presence), be active (enjoy what you do, get out of the house, feel alive), keep learning (embrace new experiences, learn something new every day from others, make it part of your CV), connect (feel connected, talk and listen) and take notice (remember the small things that give you joy, be present).

To volunteer at Nelson ReStore, please contact Liz or Mandy nelson@restore.org.nz or phone 03 547 4646

To volunteer for other Hub tenants, please contact our Hub reception at nelson@habitat.org.nz

Our Supporters

The work of Habitat for Humanity Nelson would not be possible without the strong and diverse partners listed below. Therefore, we’d like to thank them for their commitment to Habitat Nelson and their continuous support.

Advocate

Advocacy means supporting and promoting a cause you believe in.

At Habitat for Humanity, we advocate to change policies and systems so that barriers to adequate, affordable housing can be eliminated. The vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Building is part of the solution, but the less visible aspects of housing like laws, regulations, systems and rules about land and the build environment are critical components as well sustainable and inclusive policies and systems can promote access to decent housing, while others can create barriers. Those barriers make it harder to find land for construction, obtain a timely building consent, construct a home or be able to afford a place to live.

Habitat’s approach to advocacy is based on decades of on-the-ground experience and policy expertise. From its deep understanding of housing and central role in providing opportunities for families, it works to reform laws in a non-confrontational, nonpartisan way.

Being active in discussions, forums, online or offline. By becoming regularly educated about regional housing issues, local Council proposals and meetings. Local body Councillors and members of Parliament are all elected by you. They listen to you, or should. The system that created the housing catastrophe that we are in today can be influenced and enhanced.

By speaking up, sharing messages or by attending crucial and important meetings with the representatives that matter, doors can be opened to more housing opportunities. You can help fulfil our vision without lifting a hammer or transferring money.
